Community Organizations

Youth programs, hospitals, farmers markets, health clinics, VA organizations, and nonprofits across the country are using the Charlie Cart to expand food and cooking education opportunities for their communities.

Why Cook in the Community?

At The Charlie Cart Project, we believe that good health starts with informed choices and a deep understanding of the role food plays in our lives. We help community organizations provide adaptive food education and experiential learning opportunities that aid individuals in connecting food choices and healthy lifestyles, while having fun, learning new skills, and building community.

    Cooking Classes and Demonstrations
After-school programs, farmer’s markets, health clinics and more all provide hands-on classes and demonstrations that engage community members in fun, interactive cooking projects. Cooking classes can focus on practical, easy-to-implement recipes, or you can provide demonstrations of how to use market produce or cook for a special diet.

    Workplace Wellness Programs
Organizations use our programs in their workplace to promote a culture of health and well-being. Workplace wellness initiatives centered around food education include lunch and learn sessions, cooking classes, and nutrition counseling to empower employees to make healthier choices in their daily lives.

Our community organizations serve the communities with food education.

I think about the ease and the availability to do food demonstrations, the skills lessons, and the readiness of everything. The tools, the skillet, and more it’s all there. You don’t have to go out and get all the things yourself to go do a program.”
The Charlie Cart gave us a way to teach healthier ways of cooking, safer ways of cooking, in a way that otherwise we wouldn’t be able to, because of space and equipment.”
In the beginning it was, “Who wants to cook?”, and one person’s hand would go up. Then I would say, “Well who wants to eat?”, and then everyone’s hand would go up. In the beginning, very few wanted to help, and all wanted to eat. Now, everyone wants to help.”
Our students and staff LOVE the cart. On my end, it makes planning, cooking, and teaching so quick and easy. The lesson plans are thorough and contain great recipes for kids to learn both basic and advanced cooking skills. The students love getting to participate and constantly ask when I am coming to visit next.”
